BlackBerry reveals how it’s toughened up the Priv’s Android software

CANADIAN PHONE MAKER BlackBerry has detailed how it has hardened the Android software that will power the security-conscious BlackBerry Priv.

BlackBerry has beefed up Google’s Android software with its own security features in a bid to convince potential buyers that the Priv will be better at protecting user privacy and less susceptible to malware than most other Android devices.

First up, BlackBerry said that it has kitted out the Priv’s Android software with the firm’s Hardware Root of Trust, a “unique manufacturing process” that injects cryptographic keys into the hardware, along with Verified Boot and Secure Bootchain which use the embedded keys to verify every layer of the device from hardware to OS to applications.
